Roelofs Kipper in Rouveen Roelofs Kipper develops modular tippers, BE load trailers, durable stainless steel boxes and several types of truck bodies. All Roelofs Kipper employees have more than 60 years’ experience in this area. In addition to the development and construction of modular tippers, BE load trailers, durable stainless steel boxes and several types of truck bodies, Roelofs also builds loading cranes and/or container removal systems. Once the construction is finished, the combination will go to Kooiker Truck Painting where the chassis will be lettered and sprayed with the client company’s colors. Both companies will soon come together in a new building to be built in Nieuwleusen. Composite Technology Centre in Hengelo   Composite Technology Centre (CTC) is specialized in the design of products constructed from fiber-reinforced plastics (composites), including the design of the process and production resources (forms) that are necessary for fabrication. CTC has more than 25 years of experience in the design and fabrication of composite products. The most experience has been gained in the wind energy sector with the design of blades: very large structures carrying extremely heavy dynamic loads for which, using a standardization system, full scale testing and certification, a lifespan of 20 years must be demonstrated. Various commissions have also been executed outside the wind energy sector (vehicles, boats, machine parts). Knowledge and experience is present in the areas of aerodynamics, structural design, load calculation, testing and certification, various production techniques (including infusion, wrapping, prepreg, hand lay-up, coating) and a broad scale of materials. In the Netherlands, CTC employs 17 people. Website: www.ctcgroup.nl

ThermoPlastic Composite Research Centre (TPRC) / University of Twente in Enschede  The mission of this research institute is to start joint research into the technology of thermoplastic composites because these materials will deliver new production and assembly processes that are cost-efficient and that offer significant environmental advantages. By nature, thermoplastic materials are malleable, can withstand impact better and are more durable than thermally hardened composites. The shortened production time and cost reductions have significant consequences for the way in which future products will be made. As a catalyst for innovation, the new consortium will cooperate with various parties in the value chain of thermoplastic composites. TPRC will focus on the development of new materials for a broad range of applications including wind energy, oil and gas, aerospace, automotive, medical, the machine industry, infrastructure, shipping and sports. The TPRC research center will provide researchers and developers from all the parties the opportunity to cooperate closely on open innovation. In this way, parties can also share advanced research facilities. Website: www.tprc.nl

NLR in Marknesse The NLR researches the development and fabrication of high-value, fiber-reinforced (composite) structures. The NLR’s construction technology division develops new structural concepts, manufacturing techniques, design rules and guidelines for composite structures. The division has grown from a laboratory environment into an industrial research partner without having lost its solid base as an independent research institute. In addition to weight reduction, the division also focuses its attention on developing cost-effective manufacturing techniques. The development of new structural concepts and manufacturing techniques is a specialty of the division. The NLR’s construction technology division and its customers are pioneers in the area of the development of resin injection (Resin Transfer Molding, RTM).This technique makes possible the fabrication of thick, structural, fiber-reinforced components. In 2005, the NLR invested in a so-called Fiber Placement Machine with which complex forms can be manufactured from fiber-reinforced plastics in an automated fashion. The NLR sees automated fabrication as an important direction toward which the manufacture of fiber-reinforced materials will develop. Website: www.nlr.nl
